Agrawal, who sustained bullet injuries on his chest, was rushed to the Narayani Sub-regional Hospital for treatment and later airlifted to Kathmandu. Agrawal is associated with the Delhi Public School (Birgunj).

The gang also hurled a bomb, targeting Agrawal after shooting him. Shyam Mandal and pedestrian Hari Shah Turaha were injured as the bomb exploded after it hit the tyre of a school bus, police said.

A note undersigned by Indian criminal Chhote Lal Sahani was recovered from the spot. Sahani has warned through the note that other businessmen, too, would face similar consequences if they did not meet the demands put forth by his gang.

According to Agrawal’s family sources, some persons, identifying themselves as members of the gang led by Sahani, had telephoned Agrawal a few days ago and threatened to kill him if he didn’t provide them a hefty sum of money.

Sahani was arrested in Patna two months ago. SP Yadav Adhikari of the Parsa District Police Office said a search for the assailants was on.

Meanwhile, demanding security for local businessmen, the Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industries submitted a memorandum to Chief District Officer of Parsa, Nabin Kumar Ghimire. The businessmen have warned that they would stage an agitation if the security organs failed to nab the attackers at the earliest. The memorandum was undersigned by chairman of the Birgunj CCI, Bijay Sarawagi.
