Birgunj, Gaur tense as police, protesters clash
BIRGUNJ/GAUR: Tension ran high in Birgunj of Parsa district and Gaur of Rautahat district after protesting cadres of the United Democratic Madhesi Front clashed with police, on Saturday.
Birgunj was tense after police arrested some protesting cadres for vandalising a motorbike at Ghantaghar of the town at around 2:30 pm today.
Police lobbed two shells of tear gas to disperse the protesting mob. A protester was injured in the clash. His identity is yet to be established.
Likewise, a clash erupted between the cops and protesters when law enforcement personnel stopped a rally of the UDMF cadres at BP Chok of the Rautahat district headquarters at around 2:30 pm today.
The security personnel had to use more than a dozen shells of tear gas to contain the protests. They also opened eight blank fires.
Locals health facilities have not reported any case of injury yet. However, the UDMF claimed as many as eight protesters sustained minor injuries.
According to police, 11 security personnel were also injured.
