Birgunj mayor dismisses rumours of his resignation
Birgunj, September 14
Birgunj Metropolitan City Mayor Bijay Sarawagi today dismissed rumours that he had quit Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal.
There were reports in the media that Mayor Sarwagi had resigned from the party. Mayor Sarawagi made it clear that he had expressed dissatisfaction with party leaders, but had not resigned.
With rumours of the mayor quitting the party doing the rounds, Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal has called party’s emergency meeting in Kathmandu tomorrow. Sarawagi will head to Kathmandu to put his views.
Sarawagi said he had had expressed dissatisfaction after the party exerted undue pressure on the metropolitan city office. “Reports of my resignation are merely rumours,” he added.
It was reported that Sarawagi had sent the resignation through social networking site WhatsApp and through FSF-N central member Mohanlal Chaudahry. Mayor Sarawagi, however, dismissed the report as false.
Sarawagi was elected as the mayor of the metropolitan city from Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal. Party leaders had expressed dissatisfaction with Sarawagi for failing to function effectively.
A meeting of the Birgunj Municipal Committee of the FSF-N held on Wednesday had decided to draw the attention of the mayor with a five-point demand. When the municipal committee sought time to submit the demands to the mayor, he had refused to meet citing lack of time.
This had led to the dispute in the party. A central member of the FSF-N said it was unfortunate that a rumour of mayor quitting the party was spread. He claimed that Sarawagi, chief of Birgunj Municipal Committee, would not quit the party at any cost.
