Birgunj shuts down in anger over driver’s death

Birgunj, August 13 :

Transport workers, protesting the death of a Nepali bus driver in Raxaul Bazaar, disrupted work at the customs office on the Indo-Nepal border and closed Birgunj Bazaar today.

Transport workers said a bus bearing number plate Na 1 Kha 9791, retuning to Birgunj with pilgrims from Deoghar (India) hit a cyclist in Raxaul yesterday. A dispute ensued. Police at the customs office in Raxaul and locals there beat up driver, Ram Bahadur Tamang, a resident of Chitwan Bhandara-9. Transport workers alleged Tamang died due to injuries sustained in the beating.
