Birgunj youth held with USD 10k from passenger bus at Hetaunda

HETAUNDA: A man was arrested from a bus heading to Birgunj after police discovered that he illegally possessed USD 10,000 in Makawanpur district of central Nepal.

The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Sarvadananda Jaiswal, a resident of Birgunj, had boarded the bus that left Banepa and was heading to the border city via Hetaunda, Nepal Police said.

He had reportedly hidden the fortune, all in 100-dollar bills, in shoes and socks that he was wearing.

Police said a team deployed from Pashupatinagar-based Area Police Office intercepted the bus at Ratmate Check Post after receiving a tip-off about dollar smuggling.

The Makawanpur District Police Office said that Jaiswal has been handed over to the Revenue Investigation Department, Harihar Bhawan in Lalitpur.
