Bista Magar quits UCPN-Maoist SC

KATHMANDU, July 20

With his 21-point dissenting views Unified CPN-Maoist standing committee member Lokendra Bista Magar had presented his resignation letter from his position some four months ago but the party kept the issue buried.

On March 31, Bista Magar resigned from his ‘ceremonial’ position – Standing Committee member, but the party has not yet accepted his resignation.

Talking with this scribe over cell phone from Kavre, Magar accused party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and senior leader Baburam Bhattarai of causing the party to deteriorate.

He, however, said he would not leave the party as he had given as much sweat and blood for the party as Dahal and Bhattarai.

“I have never accepted the ceremonial position in my political career and therefore I resigned from the standing committee membership since I was not given any responsibility,” Magar said, adding that he was busy with agricultural activities in Kavre.

He also said some media have misinformed people about his connection with Netra Bikram Chand, but he said that could be the ploy of UCPN-M leaders to push him to  Chand’s camp.

Magar charged that party leaders had plotted against him to defeat him in the second Constituent Assembly elections. Magar had been fielded from Myagdi district.

Magar said he would speak after the action of the UCPN-M on his resignation.
