Blockade on highway over mishap death

HETAUDA: Relatives of Naresh Gurung who died after being hit by a truck on Tuesday, obstructed the Hetauda section of the East-West Highway today. The 30-year-old had died in course of treatment in Bharatpur.

The traffic came to a standstill in the area from 7 am to 6 pm. Birendra Kumar Yadav, inspector, Area Police Office Pashupatinagar, said the agitators had agreed to allow traffic movement after the truck owner promised Rs 2.25 lakh in relief and free secondary education to a child of the deceased.

Meanwhile, an unidentified group shot Gopal Rumba of Palase in Sarikhet VDC last night.

According to Midwestern Regional Police Office Hetauda, critically injured Rumba is undergoing treatment at Bharatpur Hospital.

The gang had shot him as he refused to pay a sum demanded by them, a family source said.
