Boat service resumes
PARBAT: Steamer service on the Kali Gandaki River that had halted during the monsoon has been brought back into operation from Monday.
The service was halted during monsoon due to strong water current in the lake formed in the river after Kali Gandaki ‘A’ hydro power project built a dam.
According to Sun Kumari Bhattarai, secretary at the Shaligram at Bihadi Rural Municipality in Parbat district, the steamer service was halted to prevent accidents and now it has resumed as the water current has subsided in the lake as well as in the river.
With resumption of the service, locals and people from rural areas in Syangja and Gulmi as well as tourists can avail easier and cost-effective mode of transportation. There are altogether 11 streamers operative on the seven kilometres from Shaligram in Parbat to Mirmi in Syangja, benefitting people from Gulmi, Syangja and southern Baglung.
