Simmering ghee splashed on girl on turning down marriage proposal in Kanchanpur
DHANGADHI: A week after the ruthless thrashing of Radha Chaudhary of Kailali in Province 7 on accusations of “witchery”, 21-year-old Sunita Chand of Bhimdatta Municipality, Kanchanpur of the same province has been attacked for rejecting a marriage proposal.
30-year-old Dipak Chand splashed simmering ghee over Sunita scalding her face, on Wednesday morning, police informed.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Gyan Bahadur Seti, the culprit who resides near the Nepal-India border has fled to India after the incident.
“We were not informed on time,” Seti said, “Chand had already run away before we reached the incident site. We are pursuing him.”
It has been learnt that Chand acted on his infatuation over Sunita and went to her home seeking permission from her parents to marry her. However, after being rejected, Chand poured hot ghee on her from the pan which was being heated in Sunita’s kitchen.
According to police, Sunita and Dipak were relatives and the latter was already married to another woman and has a son.
The victim has suffered scalds on her face and eyes and is undergoing treatment at Geta Eye Hospital, Kailali. Meanwhile, the doctors attending Sunita said that she is out of danger.
