Bomb squad arrives 13 hours late

DAMAK: Sher Singh Limbu of Damak Municipality-1, who had informed police immediately after a recovery of a bomb in his house, had to spend 13 excruciating hours, waiting for a bomb disposal squad to arrive.

According to him, a Nepali Army team reached his house at 6 pm today although he informed the police at 5 am.

A police team from Damak had arrived early in the morning but returned warning locals not to touch the bomb, which subsequently panicked locals. "The NA bomb disosal squad arrived at 6 pm in the evening, after a prolonged wait of about 13 hours," he said.

He accused the security forces of not being serious about the security of the people, stating that local residents were terrorised after the bomb recovery.

Inspector Nabin Karki said, "We had informed the NA about the bomb immediately after we got the report." Though the police had informed the Charali-based army camp on time, the disposal team arrived late as they were waiting for orders from the headquarters.

"Who will provide security to the people, if security personnel arrive so late in such serious cases," an irate local wondered.
