Border inspection in final stage

Nepal India joint inspection team no. 2 has said that the job to observe pillars in the border areas of both the countries have reached at the final phase. The team which started its job from the Narayan river in the Nawalparasi district three months ago, it has arrived at the Kanchanpur district’s Bramhadev, today. According to the new mapping, pillar no. 497 is located at the Narayani river while pillar no. 813 is there at the Bramhadev. According to the information given to THT by the coordinator of the joint border supervision team representing Nepali side, Bhogendra Labh, the team has finished supervision of almost four hundred border

pillars in three months’ of time.

The team during the three months’ of time visited Nawalparasi, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Dang, Banke Bardiya, Kailali and Kanchanpur in Nepali side and Siddharthanagar, Balarampur, Saravasti, Baharaich, Khiri, Pilibhit, Uddyamsingh Nagar and Champawat district in Indian side and conducted research studies. According to Labh of those wretched pillars, some are in pitiable state and numbers of them have no numbers. Nepali team leader Labh said, ‘Many pillars in the Kailali district’s Mohana river have been lost.’ The team, apart from research study of pillars, is also studying the encroachment in the international border region (Dashgaja). The team has come to the conclusion that there is encroachment in the international border region in both Nepali and Indian side. The team is finally working to bring the statistical data as to how deep is the encroachment, Labh told. Both the countries are required to back off 10 gauges in the international border region. ‘The team, which started its work on December 18, has planned to complete by April 13. Later, it will find out the statistics on encroachment in the international border region and missing pillars’, Indian team leader, Gabhar Singh Negi.
