Boy dies for want of meningitis medicine
Kapilvastu, September 18:
A boy died in Prithvi Bir Hospital yesterday due to lack of medicines, the hospital sources said.
Pappu Pasi, 13, of Bhalwari VDC-3 died due to lack of medicines to fight meningitis and treatment of four other patients has also been affected, sources at the hospital said.
Mohan Gurung of Niglihawa and Sarita Raidas of Rangapur, both encephalitis patients, have not got their doses of medicines since Sunday, a staff nurse involved in their treatment said. One Sarita Devi Kandu of Kapilvastu municipality - 2 has been in labour pain, but lack of medicines has affected her treatment, the nurse said.
Medical superintendent at the hospital, Dr Altaf Hussain, said: “This hospital is running out of several medicines. The drug stores outside the hospital have remained closed due to the curfew. We have informed the administration about the problem in the hospital and we have been told that some decision would be taken in this regard.” Meanwhile, an all-party meeting held today at the call of the Kapilvastu administration decided to relaxed the indefinite curfew in Kapilvastu from 1:00 pm till 6:00 pm and from 1:00 pm till 3:00 pm in Krishnanagar today.
