Bridge construction over Mawakhola River

The construction of bridge over the Mawakhola River that connects Morang’s Madhumalla Municipality and Jhapa’s Damak Municipality has been completed.

Locals said the problem that had plagued the locals for years was resolved after completion of the bridge.

Sharma Lama JV had received the contract for construction work through the Department of Bridge east sector number 1 planning in 2015. The cost of the project was Rs 3.02 million. Locals looked elated after the construction work was completed on time.

Ward No 3 Chairman of Damak Municipality Nabin Baral said that people’s movement in the area had increased after the bridge was completed on time. He added that the compulsion to cross the river at high risk to life had ended.

Baral said the old trade centres Madhumalla and Damak had been economically advantaged following the operation of the bridge. He said people could easily walk to different places of Morang, Ilam and Panchthar districts from Damak even during the rainy season.
