Bridge in peril

DAMAULI: Bhimad Bridge over the Seti River in Tanahun is at a high risk of damage due to movement of heavy vehicles over the bridge. The movement of heavy vehicles beyond the bridge’s capacity has put the bridge in peril, said stakeholders. Second Vice-chairman of Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tanahun chapter Hasta Bahadur Khadka said, “The bridge has the capacity to sustain up to eight tons of load. But, vehicles weighing more than 36 tons are plying the bridge. This has put the bridge in danger.” The possible collapse of the bridge has worried the local folks. Local Bishnu Subedi said the bridge could collapse any time if heavy vehicles were not barred soon enough. Engineer Nabraj Bastola at Western Road Division Office No 1 admitted that movement of the heavy vehicles had weakened the bridge.
