Locals’ protest
NAWALPARASI: Irate locals, demanding the removal of a police post from Maheshpur, gheraoed it on Saturday. The police post was re-established a week ago. “It was re-established to control smuggling in this area. Probably, some with vested interests launched the protest,” said an official at the District Police Office. The post had been removed four years ago from Maheshpur four years ago for reasons of security. — HNS
Body found
NEPALGUNJ: The body of a man was found in the New Road-based Yatri Hotel in Nepalgunj on Saturday in room number 105, said hotel owner Gopal Raj Chhetri. The dead man had a Chinese pistol in his right hand. Five magazines were found under his bed, said the Banke District Police Office. Two different I-cards were found on his person. — HNS
Teachers ill
BIRGUNJ: The condition of displaced teachers, on a fast unto death for the last three days, is deteriorating. Teachers Kishun Yadav and Laxman Yadav, on hunger strike at Ghantaghar since Thursday, were admitted to Narayani sub-regional hospital on Saturday. Local politicians, teachers’ unions, FNJ, PABSON and Red Cross have expressed solidarity with the teachers’ movement. The Parsa District Education Office had given a written commitment on June 16, 2004 to reinstate the displaced teachers. — HNS
