‘Bring all on board poll process’

Rajbiraj, June 1

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Jitendra Narayan Dev said the government had fallen victim to bad political culture.

Speaking at a press conference here today, the minister rued the ‘increasing politicisation’ in the judiciary.

“Judiciary should be independent, but in recent years, a wrong culture has emerged whereby the selection of judges and chief justices are left to the mercy of political parties.

In fact, it is the same culture that the government has fallen prey to, of late,” he said.

The minister particularly expressed displeasure at the present political scenario and the latest conflict between the three state organs — the legislative, judiciary and executive.

“Considering the fact that the government’s attempt to increase local bodies in Tarai to bring the agitating Madhes-based parties on board the election process and ensure peace, the Supreme Court’s order to stay the government decision is, in fact, unfortunate,” he observed.

“In fact, now is the time to do the needful to bring everyone on board the election process and help implement the new constitution,” he said, adding, “Parties should be ready to increase the number of local bodies in the plains and create an environment to bring the agitating parties on board the election process. “
