Budget for warm clothes insufficient: Kavre DDRC

Kavre, January 6

The budget appropriated by the government to enable earthquake victims to purchase warm clothes is inadequate, according to District Disaster Rescue Committee, Kavre.

The government had allocated Rs 500 million for quake victims of Kavre. Each victim family is entitled to Rs 10,000 to buy warm clothes.

DDRC, Kavre said it needed at least Rs 1,000 million. The committee had started distributing the relief amount to victims almost two weeks ago.

The amount was distributed to VDCs and municipalities that have cleared the relief fund of Rs 15,000 distributed to quake victims for makeshift shelters following the deadly April 25 temblor.

According to Kavre DDRC, the fund meant for warm clothes has been distributed to 59 VDCs and two municipalities.

The district is home to 76 VDCs and five municipalities.

Kavre CDO and DDRC Chairman Madan Bhujel said they had halted relief distribution in three municipalities and some VDCs due to fund crunch. Bhujel said his office had sought Rs 250 million to distribute to the remaining municipalities.

Of the total 83,428 earthquake victim families, only 30,000 families have received the relief.
