Bunkers hit locals hard

Rautahat, January 4:

The locals are forced to walk on foot on the blacktopped Birendra Highway and graveled Garuda-Katahariya road after the Maoists constructed bunkers on both sides of the roads. They are worried about being caught in between the bunkers.

The Maoists’ district member Binaya, however, said the bunkers were constructed for the security of the people. Talking over the telephone, he said locals had nothing to worry about the bunkers. A local social worker, Ram Dev Singh, expressed concern over Maoists’ choice of public site to make bunkers. The security officials, however, claimed that they were not bunkers but small craters and that they did not pose any serious threats.
