Bus plunges 700m killing 3 on the spot in Nuwakot

KATHMANDU: At least three persons died on the spot and 27 others sustained injuries after a passenger bus fell below a road in Shivapuri Rural Municipality-7 of Nuwakot district today.

The bus (Ba 1 Kha 6348) heading for Kharanitar from Kathmandu plunged about 700 metres into a ravine, killing three passengers on the spot and injuring others, in Thanabhanjyang at around 12:30 pm, according to the Nuwakot-based police news room.

It has been learned that the bus had left for the destination at 9:30 am from Kathmandu.

It is yet to establish the identity of the accident victims, police said.

Teams of security personnel deployed from Kharanitar-based Area Police Office and Khahare-based Temporary Police Post along with a squad from Nepal Army have already carried out the rescue operation, said police.

The injured have been sent to different health institutions in Kathmandu, said police.

Further details on the mounting toll of casualties is awaited, police informed.

Meanwhile, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Madhukar Jung Bista at the District Police Office, Nuwakot, has headed to inspect the incident site.
