Butwal-Narayangadh road section blocked as drivers protest increased toll
BHAIRAHAWA: Drivers in Ramnagar, Butwal blocked the road, setting on a traffic jam, on Butwal-Narayangadh road section of Mahendra Highway after Roads Board Nepal published a notice yesterday increasing the toll rate for vehicles.
Police Inspector Ganga Bahadur Saru of Province 5 Traffic Police Office admits that the drivers are demanding that the toll rate be reduced since the rate is drastically high.
The board has increased Rs 90 per trip toll rate for cargo vehicles and heavy buses. Likewise, the toll rate for medium-sized jeeps, cars, tempos, motorbikes, and three-wheeler auto-rickshaws have been increased by cent per cent.
With unsolved debates, drivers have presented a memorandum to the District Administration Office, Rupendehi to reconsider the toll rates and allow its collection only once throughout the day, yesterday.
Police Inspector Saru assured that verbal negotiation is ongoing to cease road blockage and for the tolls to be collected two times a day.
