KATHMANDU, JUNE 23

Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City has announced a budget of Rs 3.36 billion for the upcoming fiscal year 2025/26.

Presenting the budget at the Butwal Municipal Assembly today, Deputy Mayor Sabitra Devi Aryal stated that special priority has been given to education, health, employment, tourism, and agriculture.

The city has allocated funds to implement a "Learn and Earn" programme for undergraduate and postgraduate students, who will be mobilised in various sectors including traffic management.

According to the budget statement, Rs 10 million will be allocated for implementing this programme in collaboration with the private sector. Similarly, Rs 5 million has been earmarked for tourism promotion to establish Butwal as a tourist destination, while Rs 11.5 million will be invested in transforming Butwal into a cultural city.

Under agricultural reform initiatives, Rs 10 million has been allocated for the "Butwal Farmers, Our Pride" programme. Likewise, Rs 50 million has been dedicated to the "Educate Daughters" initiative, and Rs 3 million for the provision of clothing and educational support for underprivileged children.

Additionally, Rs 10 million has been set aside to enhance digital learning portals and computer education in community schools, and Rs 70 million for the improvement of local curricula.

In the health sector, Rs 300,000 has been allocated for cervical and breast cancer screenings, video X-rays, and other medical tests for women. A further Rs 600,000 will support the operation and management of hospitals located in Butwal Wards No. 13 and 17.

Budget allocations have also been made for women entrepreneurs, the promotion of traditional occupations within the Dalit community, development of green roads, cowshed management, the procurement of tools for farmers' groups, incentives for dairy farmers, and the operation of night markets at Kalikapath, Amarpath, and Traffic Chowk.

Furthermore, Rs 15 million has been earmarked for the management and surveying of unorganised settlements and squatter areas.
