The Birgunj Metropolitan City has unveiled a budget of Rs 3.22 billion for the fiscal year 2025/26, marking an increase of Rs 330 million from the current fiscal year.
Presenting the budget at the 17th municipal assembly on Monday, Deputy Mayor Imtiyaz Alam outlined allocations and revenue estimates. Of the total budget, Rs 2.26 billion (70.24%) has been earmarked for current expenditure, Rs 923.4 million (28.64%) for capital expenditure, and Rs 306.4 million (1.12%) for financial management.
The metropolis aims to generate Rs 1.15 billion from internal revenue and expects Rs 1.37 billion from federal fiscal transfers. Additional estimates include Rs 237.8 million from federal revenue sharing, Rs 50 million from provincial intergovernmental transfers, and Rs 106.7 million from provincial revenue sharing. Revenue from property registration fees is projected at Rs 250 million, with Rs 150 million to be sourced from cash reserves.
Deputy Mayor Alam said the budget prioritizes education, health, agriculture, tourism, sanitation, environmental protection, quality infrastructure, and digital-friendly services.
