CA candidates yet to furnish election spending details

Baitadi, July 3:

Most of the candidates

for the Constituent Assembly election under first-past-the-post system in Baitadi have not submitted election expenditure reports as per the legal requirements.

The Constituent Assembly Member Election Act 2007 has a provision that says the candidates

must submit expenditure details within 35 days of the announcement of election results.

But only eight of the 19 candidates have submitted the reports so far, according to the district election office.

Maoist candidates Renu Chand and Narendra Kunwar submitted the expenditure details, chief of district election office Puspa Poudel said.

“Nepali Congress candidates Bijaydhoj Chand and Narendra Bom, CPN-UML candidate Maya Bhatt, Rastriya Prajatantra Party candidates Uttam Chand and Ganesh Bhandari and Rastriya Janamorcha candidate Shyam Chand have also submitted the details.”

Other candidates from the CPN-UML, Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, Janamorcha Nepal and Rastriya Janamorcha have not submitted expenditure details yet, the office said.

The Election Commission earlier had expressed concern that many of the Constitituent Assembly election candidates nationwide had failed to abide by the election rules.
