Call to protect women’s rights

Speakers at a workshop on reproductive rights of women and girls stressed the need to enforce the law on marriageable age of women and devise a youth-friendly health service system to meet millennium development goals on reproductive health and rights. Stating that public health system should cater to the needs of the youths, KP Bista, an adviser to the RHIYA Nepal, said the national reproductive health strategy should be followed. Anjana Shakya of the Women’s Health and Rights Advocacy Partnership (WHRAP) said NGOs and government bodies should launch campaigns to reduce maternal mortality. Dr Nirakar Man Shrestha, chief specialist, Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), said the Health ministry had joined hands with NGOs to achieve the MDGs on health.
