Call to strengthen Nepal-India ties

Kathmandu, January 28:

Indian ambassador to Nepal Shiv Shanker Mukherjee today said that Nepal and India enjoyed a “unique relationship”, which he said should be enhanced in the days ahead.

The relationship between the two countries is not only limited to government-to-government level only but also people-to-people level, Mukherjee said. The “partnership” between the two countries should continue for the betterment of the people of the two neighbouring countries. Speaking at a programme organised by the Nepal Bharat Friendship Society on the occasion of the 57th Republic Day of India, the Indian envoy said India has remained a vibrant and secular democracy, and an emerging economy.

Former Nepali ambassadors to India, Dr Bhekh Bahadur Thapa and Dr Lok Raj Baral, laid stress on further enhancement of Nepal-India relationship.

Meanwhile, the Chief of the Royal Household Sardar Sarada Prasad Pradhan today visited Mukherjee’s residence at Lainchaur on King Gyanendra’s behalf and conveyed best wishes on the occasion of the 56th Republic Day of India, RSS reported.
