Campaign launched to save deceased journalist’s wife
Dhangadi, December 9
Following the unexpected death of Kanchanpur journalist Karna Bohara two weeks ago, a civil campaign has been launched in the far-west now to save the life of the deceased journalist’s wife Mamata, a kidney patient who was left in the lurch after her husband’s death.
“As the journalist’s death has left her with no support, we couldn’t help doing what we could do from our side,” said campaign coordinator Janakraj Pandeya, a social activist, adding the campaign would also be a lesson to society about its duty towards those in need.
According to former Kailali chairperson of Federation of Nepali Journalists, Dirgharaj Upadhyaya, Rs 337,516 had been collected for the cause so far. “Though the campaign was launched before his death, it had been stepped up after he passed away,” said Upadhyaya, adding, “In the first phase, the campaign is launched in Kailali. It will be taken to other districts in the region too.”
Various FNJ chapters in the far-west districts, including FNJ Kanchanpur chapter, are also collecting donation for the deceased’s journalist’s wife.
The journalist’s death has also dealt a blow to the four children of his brother who were under his care ever since their father and mother died about one-and-a-half years ago.
After it was diagnosed that both of Mamta’s kidneys were damaged, doctors had said the treatment would cost around Rs 2 million.
She is now undergoing treatment at the Kathmandu-based Venus Hospital. The civil campaign has appealed to all to help her receive treatment.
