Campaign launched to minimise spread of rabies in Udayapur
UDAYAPUR: A campaign has been launched to minimise the spread of rampant rabies by carrying out hysterectomy on neglected domestic dogs in Triyuga Municipality of Udayapur district.
According to Triyuga Municipality mayor Baldev Chaudhary, with a view to control rabies, the municipality's Veterinary Service Branch carried out hysterectomy and gave rabies vaccine starting from the neglected dogs at Baruwa Buspark in ward no. 13.
Chief at the branch, veterinarian Indra Narayan Chaudhary said a team of three veterinarians — Manoj Kumar Chaudhary, Santosh Kumar Giri, Ganesh Rokawa — and a technician Krishna Prasad Paudel dispatched from Kathmandu were assisting in the drive to control the population of the dogs, and rabies. He said the team was carrying out hysterectomy on female dogs while the operation to remove testicles of males were ongoing.
Chief Administration Officer at the municipality, Laxman Thapa said the campaign has been launched with the objective of minimising the spread of hydrophobia by controlling the population of dogs.
The team would visit every settlement and perform surgery on at least 150 dogs as per the campaign that started from Tuesday, chief at the branch Chaudhary said.
