CCTV cameras being installed in Jhapa

Closed-circuit television cameras are being installed in all local levels of Jhapa of late.
Under the police-public partnership programme, District Police Office, Jhapa, has decided to install CCTV cameras in all local levels to curb crime.
Police have decided to install CCTV cameras in major thoroughfares and main market areas of all the local levels.
Police decided to do so after its move to install CCTV cameras in Birtamod Municipality turned out to be successful in investigating crimes.
Police had installed 64 CCTV cameras in Birtamod Municipality at the cost of Rs eight million.
District Police Chief Bhim Prasad Dhaal shared that police had set up 14 CCTV cameras at different places of Bhadrapur Municipality, two CCTV cameras in Budhabare in Buddhashanti Rural Municipality, five each in detention centres of District Police Office and subordinating police units.
Likewise, efforts are being made to set up CCTV cameras in Shivasatakshi Municipality and Kachankawal Rural Municipality, according to Dhakal informed.
“As many as 700 crime cases were reported in Jhapa in the first six months of the current fiscal.
However, installation of CCTV cameras has made the investigation process easier,” Dhakal shared.
The then DSP Krishna Koirala had taken the initiative to install CCTV cameras in the district.
