Centuries-old bricks found

Rautahat, July 15

Archaeologically significant bricks over hundreds of years old were discovered in the course of ploughing a paddy field at Sakhuawa Dhamaura VDC, Rautahat a few days ago.

The ancient bricks were found on land belonging to Mahammad Mansur of Sakhuawa Dhamaura - 5.

Area Police Office Garuda has prohibited farmers from ploughing the field after the bricks were discovered.

Mansur said, “While ploughing the field, I discovered a well-like structure with ancient looking bricks. I excavated at least three tractors of bricks before security personnel stopped us.”

Police said they imposed the ban because of the possibility of finding more historically significant artifacts.

Mansur said that besides the bricks, he discovered several bones in the well-like structure, while digging a 5 feet deep ditch. The police seized one of the tractors.

Locals said the bricks were unusually longer, wider and thinner. A huge number of people from various parts of the district and adjoining areas have thronged the site.
