Childbirth death sparks tension at PCH
Pokhara, July 26
Tension remained high at Paschimanchal Community Hospital in Pokhara today after the kin of a woman, who died following delivery, took to agitation blaming her death on the negligence of the doctors involved in treatment.
Expecting mother Nisha Kumari Thapa, 33, of Landruk in Annapurna Rural Municipality, Kaski, was admitted to the hospital yesterday morning after she had suffered labour pain. After delivering her baby (a son), she died around 5:00am today. The baby is in good condition, according to hospital sources.
Following the death, kin of the woman staged a demonstration in the hospital holding doctors involved in the treatment responsible for the death. They have demanded that the ‘guilty’ doctors apologise in public for their ‘mistake’. They have also sought compensation for the victim’s.
“It was a normal delivery, but as bleeding following the baby’s birth didn’t stop, we had urged doctors to take urgent action. But as doctors didn’t act on time and started the operation late, she lost her life,” one of the relatives said.
The hospital administration has denied all allegations against the doctors involved in Thapa’s treatment.
