Chinese security personnel accused of misdemeanour
TATOPANI: Nepalis living in and around Tatopani, the commercial point bordering with China, have complained of misbehaviour from Chinese security personnel.
Pabitra Kumar Khadka, Sindhupalchowk chairman of Federation of Nepali Journalists, said Chinese security personnel stopped him from taking photographs of government offices and monuments taking a video of the Nepali quarantine office on the Nepali soil.
An Armed Police Force personnel said the security personnel of the northern neighbour have misbehaved with them too. ‘’We simply cannot react to their behaviour,” he lamented, stating that they were not instructed what to do in such a case.
Chudamani Devkota, customs chief,Tatopani, said China had deployed plainclothesmen on the Nepali side. “Movement across the border has not been stopped despite our plea to the Nepali security forces,” he said. At least two Chinese securitymen are found on the Nepal side in guise every day.
Chinese officials have reportedly entered Nepal to stop Tibetan citizens from crossing the border. Bijaya Poudel, chief, Tatopani Immigration Office, said he did not know whether the officials were ordered to cross the border or did it on their own. Poudel has urged Chinese authorities to stop such activities.
Police Inspector Mudhusudan Silwal denied rumours that Chinese authorities arranged the duty of Nepali security personnel as well. The Chinese officials are learnt to have come to Nepal to force the hand-over of illegal Tibetan immigrants held by their Nepali counterparts. “They pressed us to extradite 20 Tibetans arrested last week but we refused to do so,” Poudel said. Reports said Chinese authorities reach as far as Barhabise by covering the plates of their vehicle.
