GALKOT, NOVEMBER 23

Chitra Bahadur KC of Rastriya Janamorcha has won the election to the House of Representatives from Baglung Constituency-1.

KC, the common candidate of the ruling alliance secured 21,451 votes defeating his nearest rival of CPN-UML Surya Pathak, according to Chief Election Officer Diwakar Bhatta.

Pathak obtained 18,525 votes followed by Khimananda Kandel (9,181) of Rastriya Swatantra Party.

The octogenarian will be entering the Parliament for the fourth time. He was the winning candidate in the 1999 general election and 2008 Constituent Assembly election.

He was member in the 2013 (second) Constituent Assembly under proportional representation system and did not compete in the 2017 election. He had, however, lost the 1994 mid-term election.

He was appointed deputy prime minister and minister of Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation on 5 November 2015 at the age of 75.

He is well-known among the people as a leader with high oratory skills. He had spent 19 years of his life underground and nine months in jail.
