The Chitawan bandh by students to protest police interference

on Wednesday passed off peacefully today.

The students had gheraoed the Development Committee Office on Wednesday and it was broken up by the police. All educational institutions here remained closed.

Very few peopl turned out in the streets though government offices were opened.

All local markets including those at Narayangarh, Bharatpur municipality area, Ratnanagar, Rampur, Chanauli and Madi also remained closed.

Police said that no untoward incident occurred anywhere in the region.

The students and youths had exempted vehicles like ambulances, wedding vehicles, and milk-tankers and rickshaws from the bandh. Except for these vehicles mentioned above, no other vehicles were seen plying on the roads.
