Chitwan district recorded a 64.12 percent voter turnout in the House of Representatives election held on Thursday.
Voting took place across the district's three constituencies from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, with a total of 283,428 voters casting their ballots, according to Ganesh Aryal, Chief District Officer (CDO) of Chitwan. Of the voters, 67.25 percent were female and 60.89 percent male, CDO Aryal reported.
Ballot boxes from all constituencies are expected to arrive at the vote counting stations by 10:00 pm tonight, he added. The Election Commission has completed preparations for vote counting, which will begin following consultations with electoral candidates or their representatives.
Vote counting for Constituency No. 1 will take place at Bhuvani Shankar Multiple College, Khairahai, while ballots from Constituency No. 2 will be counted at the Exhibition Centre of the Federation of Industries, Bharatpur. Votes from Constituency No. 3 will be tallied at the Agriculture and Forest Science University, Rampur.
The three constituencies collectively have 442,082 registered voters, including 217,314 male, 224,766 female, and 2 belonging to the third gender. A total of 494 polling centres and 162 polling stations were set up across these constituencies, with 64 candidates contesting in the election.
With voting concluded, the process of transporting ballot boxes from polling stations to the designated vote counting centres is underway.
In comparison, during the previous parliamentary election in 2022, Chitwan had 408,343 registered voters, and voter turnout was reported at 67.14 percent.
