Chure Conservation Prgramme putting river, forest at stake

BIRGUNJ: To limit the work only in papers in order to gobble the money, the Bakaiya forest and Lalbakaiya River have been put at state in the name of constructing embankment under the President Chure Conservation Programme.

Instead of participation of local people from the consumer committees, excavators were there to dig out mud from the root of trees in the forest area.

The construction is currently being held on the west bank of Lalbakaiya River along the East-West Highway.

Excavation of mud from the root of trees in the name of construction has put a question on future of trees and other natural resources.

The Water-induced Disaster Prevention Office in Parwanipur stated the objective behind the construction of embankment is to control the flow of water so that Bhawar area of Chure Range can be saved.

According to Account Officer Gobinda Pyakurel, a budged of Rs 4.7 million has been allocated for construction of 600 metre embankment by the west bank of Lalbakaiya River in Bakaiya forest.
