Panchthar:  The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has started an investigation on misappropriation of the Social Security Fund in Phiddim Municipality of Panchthar district.

Following the incident wherein municipality account officer Pemba Sherpa had transferred funds deposited in the accounts of  deceased person to his own account from various banks, CIAA's Regional Office in Itahari had written to the District Administration Office (DAO), Panchthar to investigate into the matter.

According to Chief District Officer (CDO) Prakash Chandra Adhikari, the DAO has seized the documents related to Social Security Allowance from Phiddim Municipality office on Wednesday.

DAO will study the documents and will submit its report to the CIAA regional Office after seven days, CDO Adhikari added.

Meanwhile, Phiddim Municipality had already formed a three-member probe committee under coordination of municipality spokesperson and chairperson of ward no 3, Narendra Gurung.

Sherpa had transferred the amount from Phiddim branches of Machhapuchhre Bank and Global Bank IME Bank.

According to the rules, the right to transfer the funds remains with the head of the office, however, Sherpa had attempted to transfer the funds himself to his personal account claiming that the funds could not be transferred directly to the government account.

After the committee submits its report, the guilty will be prosecuted according to the law, Mayor Onahang Nemwang said.
