BIRGUNJ, AUGUST 16

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority raided Narayani Hospital of Birgunj today. A five-member team from the CIAA Hetauda office led by Under-secretary Bishnu Prasad Sapkota carried out the raid, acting on reports of massive irregularities.

According to Sapkota, his team is taking control of documents related to irregularities in the hospital pharmacy.

"We'll launch investigation once we take all the files related to the stock of medicines, daily trading and inventory of date-expired drugs under control," the investigation team's chief said.

The hospital had opened its own pharmacy four years ago, but all necessary drugs are not found here, patients are obliged to buy most of the medicines from outside.

Irregularities in the hospital had come under the CIAA's scanner following recent reports about irregularities worth around 12 million rupees at the hospital pharmacy. Today, the CIAA team raided the account section, store and pharmacy of the hospital. The hospital's acting medical superintendent Dr Birendra Bahadur Pradhan said regular services were delivered as usual despite the raid today.
