Citizenship issuance comes to a halt
Bhairahawa, February 12:
The distribution of citizenship certificates at the Siddharthanagar municipality has been postponed for two days.
The move came today as Maoist cadres threatened to thrash officials involved in the distribution of citizenship certificates if they did not act as per their order.
“The work has been postponed for two days to create an atmosphere conducive for the distribution of citizenship certificates,” the chief of the citizenship certificate distribution team, Yadavraj Pandey, said, adding, “The work will resume after we issue a notice after two days.”
Eight parties held a meeting after the Maoists insisted today that they be given the authority to recommend names for the distribution of the citizenship certificates.
The meeting decided to keep representatives of the eight parties on the venues where citizenship certificates will be distributed and give the team the details of representatives of the eight parties. CDO Beni Madhav Gyawali, Bijaya Sharma of the NC, Deepak Neupane of the CPN (UML) Ramu Yadav of the CPN (Maoist) took part in the meet.
