‘Civic polls in two phases if UDMF assures its participation’

Jhapa, April 18

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba said his party was ready to facilitate holding the local elections in two phases if that ensured the participation of the United Democratic Madhesi Front in the polls.

Speaking at a mass meeting in Jhapa today, the NC chief called on the UDMF to take part in the polls and said, “As election is the lifeline of democracy and multi-party system and the entire country is geared up for the same, no one should run away from it; instead, they should avail themselves of this opportunity to go to the public and win popular support for their agenda, which is vital to get their agenda to prevail.”

The Jhapa mass meeting marks the conclusion of the province-wise mass meeting campaign that the party had started professedly to facilitate the environment for polls. Except for the mass meeting slated in Janakpur for Province 2, Congress has successfully conducted its mass meetings in all other provinces.

Various NC leaders including senior leader Ramchandra Paudel, General Secretary Shashank Koirala, and former general secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula spoke today.
