Civil society seeks interim statute, govt

Kathmandu, December 10:

The Civil Campaign for Social Transformation and Loktantra today handed over a memorandum on behalf of civil society to the Speaker of House of Representative Subas Nembang.

They have demanded that the interim constitution, interim government and the interim parliament be inclusive in nature, ensure proportionate representation of all regions, ethnicity, gender and deprived communities in the constituent assembly and ensure poverty elimination and food security through the constitution. The campaign has also demanded immediate implementation of the House proclamation which has ensured 33 per cent women representation in all the state mechanism and said it should be increased to 50 per cent.

There should be a constitutional provision to ensure right of women in reproductive health as human rights, and constitutional rights to get citizenship in the name of mother and compulsory representation of women. The Civil Campaign is a loose associ ation of 30 organisations.
