Cold spell affects life

Nepalgunj, January 22:

Flights from Nepalgunj to Simikot of Humla have been disrupted since yesterday after the district received more than a foot of snowfall, the Civil Aviation Authority office in Nepalgunj said, adding that flights might not resume for the next few days until snofall ceases.

Humla-bound passengers were left stranded in Nepalgunj after the cancellation of flights. The cold spell has also affected life in Nepalgunj with the roads being deserted. Former Kamaiyas and landless people have been badly affected by the dipping mercury. Rickshaw pullers and pull-cart labourers said they are feeling it increasingly difficult to work in the chilly weather.

Rickshaw puller Bir Bahadur Tharu said the cold spell has affected his work and it is difficult for him to find passengers. Meanwhile, groups could be seen sitting near fireplaces along the road and chowks. Nepalgunj, including western Nepal, remained gloomy the whole day today.
