BEIJING, OCTOBER 17

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister who is on a visit to China held a bilateral meeting with Chinese Minister of Public Security and Chinese Communist Party Secretariat Member Wang Xiaohong today.

Matters related to Nepal-China relations and areas for bilateral collaboration were discussed between the two leaders.

On the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha reiterated Nepal's full commitment to the 'one China policy'.

"Nepal has unswerving and clear stance towards one China policy no matter what changes occur in Nepal's internal and external politicalcircumstances," DPM Shrestha added.

DPM Shrestha had also discussed ways to advance bilateral collaboration on issues related to law enforcement, border management and security personnel capacity building among others.

He also stressed the need to enhance cross-border security collaboration for maintaining law and order and cross-border criminal activities.

During the meet, Chinese Minister Xiaohong pledged to extend necessary assistance materials to Nepal Police and Armed Police Force for the enhancement of capacity to manage disasters.

Both the leaders appreciated the opening of 14 transit points along the Nepal-China border areas.

They said the opening of border transit points would not only propel bilateral business opportunities but also deepen people-to-people relations between the two countries.

The meeting was attended by DPM Shrestha, Joint-secretary at Ministry of Foreign Affairs Amrit Bahadur Rai, Home Ministry Joint-secretary Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, DPM's personal Secretary Suresh Kaji Shrestha and Executive Chief of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority Anil Pokharel on behalf of Nepal while Minister Xiaohong along with high ranking government officials attended the meeting from the Chinese side.
