Former education minister Girirajmani Pokharel has stressed on the need of collective efforts on the part of all stakeholders to enhance quality of education.

Inaugurating a municipality-level education conference organised by Dhangadhimai Municipality, Siraha, today, the former minister said, "Teachers alone cannot ensure quality of education so it calls for collective efforts of all - teachers, students and guardians."

Further, Pokharel pointed out the lack of awareness in the community regarding its responsibility towards education as a factor contributing to the poor education quality in the country.

"We still regard the school management committee as a political body. This has played a role in making our education quality poor," he reasoned, suggesting that schools bee allowed to remain autonomous entities.

The former education minister also highlighted the need for today's schools to be technology-friendly to enhance education quality, and opined that the upcoming education act must encourage production of manpower that is in high demand in the market.

Various other speakers, including educationists Bimal Funyal, Purna Dawari, Nanda Kumar Thapa also spoke. The conference held under the chairmanship of Dhangadimai Municipality Mayor Harinarayan Chaudhary also issued a 25-point Town Education Declaration Paper.

There are 33 community, 23 private and six seminaries in the municipality. The conference saw the participation of teachers of all schools, people's representatives, journalists and education experts of the municipality.
