KATHMANDU, JANUARY 6

The ruling coalition has prepared a common minimum programme for effectively running the government and its final draft will be submitted to top leaders of the alliance for discussion tomorrow.

Rastriya Swatantra Party Spokesperson Mukul Dhakal said the 13- page document focused on good governance, corruption control, implementation of the constitution, and amendment of old acts and laws.

According to Rastriya Prajatantra Party General Secretary Dhawal Shumsher Rana, public holiday on January 11 to mark Prithivi Jayanti is part of the CMP.

Prior to becoming the prime minister, CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal had said he would ensure formation of a powerful commission to control corruption and initiate large development projects.

According to leaders involved in drafting the document, the CMP will focus on these two aspects, as well as improving service delivery.

On December 29, a meeting of top leaders of the ruling coalition had decided to form a panel to draft the CMP.

Led by Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel, the panel includes Barshaman Pun from the CPN-MC, Mukul Dhakal from the RSP, Dhawal Shumsher Rana from the RPP, and Rakam Chemjong from the Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal as members.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Rabi Lamichhane told mediapersons: "Going beyond ideology and principles, we will include issues that address concerns of citizens. Steps will be taken to control corruption."

Five leaders of the coalition - Prime Minister Dahal, UML Chair KP Sharma Oli, RSP Chair and Deputy Prime Minister Lamichhane, RPP Chair Rajendra Lingden, and JSP Chief Upendra Yadav - had met on Wednesday and decided that the major focus of the CMP would be on ensuring economic prosperity and initiating development works.

A JSP-N leader said the party would join the government only if the CMP incorporates their agendas.

A working group led by Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel prepared the CMP today.
