Oli to head taskforce to pen CMP • Madhesi parties skip meeting

Kathmandu, December 29

Four major partners of the ruling alliance - the CPN-UML, the CPN-Maoist Centre, the Rastriya Swatantra Party, and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party - held a meeting to discuss the common minimum programme of the seven-party alliance government led by CPN-Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane told mediapersons that the meeting designated UML Chair KP Sharma Oli as the coordinator of the taskforce formed to prepare the CMP within the next five days.

Representatives of three parties of the alliance - the Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal, the Janmat Party, and the Nagarik Unmukti Party - were not present in today's meeting.

Lamichhane, who is the chairman of the RSP, said the parties that did not send their representatives were also in agreement with the four parties that met today to discuss the CMP. He said the three partners would send their representatives in the next meeting.

Lamichhane said the CMP would be prepared after discussing alliance partners' agenda.

He said Cabinet expansion could take some time and clarified that it had nothing to do with the PM's trust vote. He said the Cabinet expansion could happen before or after the trust vote.

The RPP has demanded to include its agenda in the CMP. It has sought to bring cabinet decisions under the purview of Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority.

The RSP has sought to form a commission to investigate assets of leaders and top government officials who held office post 1990.

The Nagarik Unmukti Party has sought the release of Resham Chaudhary who was convicted in Kailali carnage case.
