Complaint boxes have a grudge

Jajarkot, September 6:

For five years, complaint boxes outside government offices in Jajarkot district have been looking for complaints.

No one has bothered to drop complaints at these boxes so far, government offices based in the district said in unison.

The then government had installed the boxes five years ago to entertain complaints, suggestions and feedbacks. These boxes have fallen into disuse and are rusting, the offices said.

“Earlier, we used to open boxes regularly and look for complaints. We have stopped doing

that now,” said Pabitra Kumar Sharma, chief of the District Land Revenue Office, adding that the boxes had not been opened for three years.

Chief district officer of Jajarkot Achyutraj Regmi said complaint boxes are empty because people prefer to put problems before the chiefs of the offices. “Why would anyone drop complaints at the boxes when they can meet chiefs of government offices and put problems before them?” Regmi questioned.

“The boxes are without complaints but we cannot remove them because the government has not told us to do so,” said Bal Krishna Khanal, an engineer at the district technical office.
