Congress bats for HLSRC

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party meeting today said the concept paper of the Constituent Assembly committee on State Restructuring and Distribution of State Power was passed by voting without discussion among parties.

NC has decided to oppose the concept paper that was submitted to the CA yesterday. NC lawmakers are all set to air their voice against the paper. PP spokesperson Navindra Raj Joshi said they would demand the formation of a High-Level State Restructuring Commission (HLSRC) as envisaged by the constitution. The PP also decided to oppose the CA panel’s decision to incorporate the pre-emptive right to rule and right to self-determination. The panel had proposed carving out 14 federal units based on ethnicity and communal identities. The NC had proposed a six-unit model based on functional capacity.

Gagan Thapa for change of guard

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Gagan Thapa on Friday said it was high time to change the guard of government as it failed to deliver services to the people.

Airing his view in the PP meeting, Thapa said even the CPN-UML and the main opposition, UCPN-Maoist were not happy with the functioning of the government led by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal. He, however, maintained that youth leaders representing the NC should lead the next government.

Meanwhile, the UCPN-M PP meeting briefed its lawmakers about the CA committee's report. Post Bahadur Bogati said their CA members would air views in the CA as per the briefing. Tarai-Madhes Loktantrik Party also briefed its members about the party's view.
