'Consensus, cooperation essential to implement Constitution'

CHITWAN: Minister for Home Affairs Shakti Basnet said that consensus and cooperation among the major political parties were necessary for the implementation of new Constitution.

While speaking at press conference organised by the Chitwan chapter of the Federation of Revolutionary Journalists at Bharatpur Airport on Sunday, he said that a national consensus government should be formed incorporating the Nepali Congress.

Responding to a query, Minister Basnet said that the agitation to be launched by the Madhes-based parties would be ‘meaningless’ as the demands of the Madhesi community had already been addressed by the new Constitution.

"Most of the demands of Madhes-based parties have already been addressed by amending the Constitution," he said, adding,"Rest of the demands will be addressed through the political mechanism."
