Constitution amendment debate to last till elections: Koirala

CHITWAN: Nepali Congress General Secretary Shashanka Koirala has stated that debates over the purported Constitution amendment would end only after the completion of local elections.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Nepal Press Union, Chitwan, at the Bharatpur Airport today, the NC leader suggested that the leaders should not entangle themselves in the bill, but focus on the elections instead.

"The dates for the elections should be announced at the earliest with political consensus," Koirala said.

All three elections—local, provincial and federal—should be held under the old structure within January 2018, he demanded.

On a separate note, Koirala recalled an agreement with CPN Maoist Centres and said that the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government would last until the elections would be held.
