Constitution first priority: Nepal

JANAKPURDHAM: Senior CPN-UML Madhav Kumar Nepal on Monday said the first priority was to draft the statute. He pleaded with leaders of parties opposing the 16-point agreement to support the statute drafting process without any obstruction. Speaking at the inauguration of a library at Bisarbhora of Dhanusha, Nepal told mediapersons, “First, let’s draft the constitution, then all errors will be rectified. We can’t issue the statute, if we keep disputing over issues.” Nepal said the recent stay order issued by the Supreme Court against the 16-point pact was beyond its jurisdiction. “We still have time to correct the errors that surfaced in the past. However, we need to push forward the constitution writing process,” he said. “The country will remain unstable, if we fail to deliver the constitution through the second CA. Hence, the constitution must be everyone’s priority,” Nepal said.

Tanzania NRNA panel

KATHMANDU: The second convention of Non-Resident Nepalese Association Tanzania on Monday formed a new working committee. Nepalese residing in Tanzania have elected Roshan Thapa president of NRNA Tanzania. Thapa said the association would help Nepal in a creative manner.   Prem Bahadur Gurung has been elected vice president followed by chief secretary Pushpa Raj Bhattarai, Secretary Sanjit Thapa and Nabin Pandit as Treasurer. The convention elected Deepak Lamichhane as youth coordinator and Tara Khanal as woman coordinator. Bishnu Lamichhane, Krishna Sunar, Ram Chaudhary, Viru Rayamajhi and Gange Damai have been elected members of the committee. NRNA Tanzania has contributed about Rs 1.4 million for quake victims.

Women’s role stressed

HETAUDA: Minister for Education Chitralekha Yadav on Monday said stressed the need to use women’s capacity and skill for the country’s development in every sector to transform the country. Speaking at a programme organised by Makawanpur Chapter of Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) in Hetuada, Yadav asked women to move ahead with confidence and resolve. “We should not consider ourselves weak. The perception that women are feeble is wrong.” Yadav said vocational training and education would empower and make women self-reliant.

Youth electrocuted

KHOTANG: A youth died after he was electrocuted at Nunthala VDC in Khotang on Sunday night. The deceased has been identified as Man Kumar Rai, 27. The incident occurred when Rai was turning off the main switch at his house just when high voltage was generated in the Gaighat-Buipa transmission line. Transformers in the village were also burnt due to the high voltage. Power supply been obstructed in the area.
